My Oil paintings are done with many layers of paint. I like to emulate the “Old Masters” techniques, painting in layers of tones and colour, slowly creeping towards the final colours. I use oil paint thinned with turpentine to draw with, then work layer upon layer with about 80% stand oil mixed with 20% colour. This makes oil paint completely transparent, allowing the tonal colours worked underneath to show through.
